Tom left Dallas for Omaha and found the perfect newspaper match as well as his future wife. 

Tom Shatel had his origins at Mizzou:  Harpo's, the Heidelberg, Shakespeare's, Booches and other establishments where beer drinking is still the final class of the day....The Columns, Jesse Hall...Faurot Field, the Hearnes Center. And, of course, the world famous J-School halls which were the launching pads for Tom Shatel's and several other great careers such as Dodd's.

Longtime FWAA member and 2002 FWAA President Kelly Whiteside has been named the FWAA's 2025 Bert McGrane winner and will be honored at a dinner in Atlanta tonight hosted by the National Football Foundation and presented by the More Family. The event kicks off festivities leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night.

Chris Dufresne remembered with Bert McGrane Award

Veteran sportswriter Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports has been named the recipient of the FWAA’s Bert McGrane Award for 2022, symbolic of the association’s Hall of Fame. He will be honored during the Past Presidents Dinner here tonight.

DALLAS (FWAA) � Long-time Notre Dame Sports Information Director John Heisler, now holding a similar position at the University of Central Florida, has been named the recipient of the Football Writers Association of America's Bert McGrane Award for 2021.

Dan Foster, long-time South Carolina sports writer and editor, has won the 2003 Bert McGrane Award.

Longtime Arkansas sports writer Orville Henry was named the winner of the 2002 Bert McGrane Award during the FWAA's annual meeting on Thursday.
